Lab / On-site diagnostics

In many cases, it makes sense to supplement the restoration studies with laboratory and diagnostic services. The analyses in the monument laboratory serve to determine the materiality, damage patterns and their causes.

For this purpose, extensive technical possibilities are available for on-site diagnostics in order to detect and describe damage as non-destructively as possible and to evaluate it on a project-specific basis.

The ProDenkmal laboratory also offers its capacities to external clients such as authorities, architects and restorers.

Our services include:

  • On-site diagnostics:
    Ultrasonic and drilling resistance measurement, material moisture, salt contamination, material selection/deficiencies, inspection of old preservation and repair materials, climate measurement, crack monitoring, thermography.
  • Laboratory analyses:
    Material determination, damage analyses, physical-mechanical properties of mineral building materials, qualitative and quantitative determination of binders and aggregates of plasters and mortars, mineralogical inventory, colour coatings, qualitative and quantitative salt analysis, effectiveness control of preservations and coatings, quality control of restoration measures during construction.

Monument Information System / Denkmalinformationssystem (DIS)

Internet-based database systems are an effective tool for recording and planning in monument conservation and the museum sector. ProDenkmal has been developing sector-specific solutions since 2000. The in-house IT developers adapt the modular Monument Information System (DIS) to the respective project requirements and user wishes.

With the help of the Monument Information System (DIS), extensive and complex objects, properties, archives or museum depots can be recorded, filed, planned, continued and made permanently accessible in a structured manner. In the process, time layers, structural changes, transport processes, etc. are dynamically recorded and documented by means of a history function.

Research & Development

The connection between research and practice is close to our heart. In close cooperation with research institutes, universities, foundations and experts, modern methods and materials are adapted and further developed for the preservation of monuments.

On the other hand, new issues are addressed from concrete projects within the framework of research and development projects in the interdisciplinary network.

Current topics include energy efficiency and historic preservation, maintenance and repair, preventive conservation, acquisition methodology and non-destructive diagnostics, data management and presentation, revitalization and historic preservation.
